Szymon Szewczyk was born in Lódz, Poland, in 1983. He has shown an interest in music ever since he was a child, and started composing at the age of 8, beginning with simple piano pieces. Soon after, he became a student of Aleksander Tansman Music School in Lódz, and later of Henryk Wieniawski Music Secondary School in Lódz. While studying at Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Lodz, he created concert music and developed a passion for film music. Around that time he created his first pieces for film etudes made by students of PWSFTviT in Lódz. He graduated from university in 2007. As he was unable to make a living as a composer, he took up employment at a school. For 5 years he taught musical classes in local culture centres and schools, as well as rhytmic classes in kindergartens. At the same time, he was trying to emerge in the media as a film and production music composer. In 2010, he started cooperation with Paris Music Library and soon afterwards his music could be heard in TV programmes. After a few years, when Paris Music wound down, Szymon Szewczyk had already built a large enough portfolio to become a member of the ZAiKS Society of Authors. In 2014, he started collaborating with Eurozone Music – the first independent music library in Poland. His pieces from the library have been used for such productions as: Ojciec Mateusz (a TVP 1 series) or Astronomy Club (Netflix). In the meantime, he also composed soundtracks for some feature films: Christmas Eve (directed by Rafal Szamburski) and Uebergeil (directed by Jolanta Warpechowski), for Cracov 1500 game (produced by PWSFTviT) and a for several other minor productions. He also started working with Intervox Production Music.

Szymon Szewczyk made his big screen debut in 2017 with his soundtrack to Cursed (directed by Konrad Lecki), which was released by Solition. The same year, he received Levi Award for the Best Soundtrack for the film Sledztwo/The Inquest (directed by Ena Kielska) during Ca' Foscari Short Film Festival in Venice. Other important awards include: 1st place at IV Montreal International Film Scoring Competition 2018) and two (2017, 2018) Special Jury Awards for composition and orchestration (HOFA Zertifikat). Around that time, Szymon Szewczyk also started working with songwriter Akadiusz Kobus. They have created several songs together so far. Over the next few years, he composed soundtracks for a documentary Become great before God (soundtrack released by Studio Katolik) and for a drama Red Yellow Pink directed by Jolanta Warpechowski (soundtrack released by Kronos Records).

Szymon Szewczyk has collaborated with sample developer Versilian Studios as a beta tester for virtual instruments and a demo composer. This leads to an interesting story – German film composer Christoph Blaser was looking for new sounds for his project. He came across Broken Dance, which Szymon Szewczyk had created as a demo for Versilian Studios. The piece went very well with the project Christoph was working on. With Szymon Szewczyk’s consent, Christoph Blaser recomposed this piece for the feature and this is how Szymon Szewczyk became a co-writer of the main theme for the Tatort: Es lebe der König! series directed by Buket Alakus (soundtrack released by Kronos Records).

Szymon Szewczyk’s work is characterised by strong, memorable music themes. The composer often blends orchestral music with subtle electronic and ethnic instruments. He is also an author of a relaxation music album Wyciszenie (Serenity), released by Soliton in 2020.
