back to INTERVIEWS
Was this new direction of yours one of the reasons you decided to leave I.N. ?
Yes and no. I was already  doing Legenda Stuff along in I.N., but the main reason for leaving it was that I really got tired of  everything and everybody in I.N.

It is also not hard to trace some "mainstream' elements in your music.  (Nothing wrong in this) Yet, you accomplish to turn  a tune that otherwise would have sounded happy'ish,  into a hymn to sorrow and sadness. Yet, I can't help moving my head to the songs. Perhaps you know what I mean. Your comments !!!
Of course there are some mainstream elements, but they just come. I don't do it consciously. When I compose whether the public likes it or not. And yes, there are some lighter tunes along as well, but they work really well with our sound.

What  are your expectations  as regards  the 'Autumnal' CD  ?
First of all I hope the layout is going to be great and second I hope it will sell a lot. HA! Just glad we got this deal and were able to record Autumnal this fast. I'm not going to die if it doesn't sell a lot. Would be great though…

What is the future of the underground scene ?  Wasn't this whole thing supposed to be an underground affair ?  I don't mean that underground bands should not get the deserved attention ( The opposite !!! )  But aren't some labels and bands selling out ?!?!
What underground?(Ed. You're right…unfortunately.) I haven't been following what's been happening in UG. Is it really still alive? What's wrong selling out. If the label does it with style, who gives a fuck? Hell, I'd rather be rich than poor.(Ed. Me too!!) If the money comes by just doing your thing, what's wrong in it?(Ed. Nothing!!) Usually people start talking about selling out, whenever a band get a little famous. Isn't that the whole point? To be famous and rich. Of course everyone likes to play if he or she is in the band, but wouldn't money help to create more music and better one? (Ed. I'd like to apologize if I didn't put the question the way I should.. What I actually meant was about bands who change their "Philosophies" according to circumstances. What Sir Luttinen said is right.)

LEGENDA is a duo. Did you ever consider enrolling other people in LEGENDA ?! I know,  being a duo leads to lesser internal conflicts (musical and non)  but does not it really hinder when it comes to promote the album by going live ?!
I do all the songs, Niko adds some bass stuff in them, so there's not any real conflicts. If we get that much attention from the public that we should do for example a tour, I guess then we would get more people in Legenda. But now, duo works well.

The music on AUTUMNAL is really dark and depressive , as I mentioned  earlier.    Also very, very COLD, but a different Coldness ,Very different from the  Norwegian or Swedish type, you know what I mean. Don't You?!  Behind every genuine piece of music (as all LEGENDA songs surely are) lies an event / philosophy  or something  only the author knows what. What is your major inspiration  SIR  LUTTINEN ?  Does nature/weather or the natural surroundings inspire  you anything ? Or is it experiences ?
I don't know what is my major inspiration. I guess it is nature. When I compose, I go out for a smoke very often and think about the song in my head. Putting the pieces together, smoking, looking at the sky, composing, smoking, looking at the sky, listening to the wind…I bet it sound stupid, (Ed. NO, It doesn't!!) but it's hard to describe it well. I usually compose at night.

What do you think about the other bands on HOLY ? Can you give us your playlist ?
I don't like most of them. Finnish Yearning sounds most promising. I don't have a special play list. I listen to all kinds of music. Legenda(Hell, you must like your own music!) (Ed. Hell Yes!!), Sentenced(with Taneli Jarva), King Diamond and Merciful Fate, Danzig, Mozart(Requiem is amazing), Vivaldi, Therion, James brown, Manowar…just to mention a few.
Ask yourself   (or ask me )  a question  that I didn't ask you .
Was I kicked out of I.N. or did I leave it? I LEFT. There are some bullshit rumours that I was kicked out. But I left and it was my own decision.

What are your other interests apart music? Any books you enjoy reading or films?
I watch movies. I haven't read a good book for a long time. I study communications(videoshooting, lighting, editing) and it would be great to participate in doing a good movie.

O.K. Sir Luttinen .  This was the end  of the interview. Hope it was not boring !! The last words are yours. Take great care and don't forget. You can  always count on me /  mega. Cheers, thank you and Good Luck !!!.
Thank you for the interview.

LEGENDA is one of the 3 new signings of the HOLYest label around.  Suomi's own LEGENDA. Most of you may not be very familiar with this name, but if I mention the mind behind this, then…some minds out there  will click . Let me then introduce you to SIR LUTTINEN , Former Mind and muscle behind the Finnish devils I. Nazarene.

SIR LUTTINEN, you are mostly welcome to   megazine. I invite you to introduce LEGENDA.
Legenda is a duo, a legend from the mighty Finland. Just me and Niko Karppinen, the bassplayer. Niko joined Legenda last Spring.

Sometime after leaving I.N.  you formed ISÄNMAA, something that didn't last quite for long. Now we are seeing you back in action with LEGENDA, and your debut CD 'Autumnal' will be released soon on HOLY.  What led you to sign to HOLY ? If you didn't sign to HOLY,  where would you have headed for?  For how many albums is the contract with HOLY ?
Actually Isänmaa is still alive, it's just sleeping at the moment. It's a one-man project, so I can continue it whenever I feel like it. Our deal with Holy started with  a promotape, which we did last July 1996. Then we sent a couple of copies to the record labels and there it was.  Holy offered a deal and both deal and label seemed to be OK. I don't know where we would have headed for, I believe in my music, so I guess we could have got another deal. With Holy we have a two-album deal.

The music on AUTUMNAL  bears a very emotional tone,  which differs totally (almost) from what we had experienced with your previous band/s (mainly referring to I.N.). The somber ,  desperate tone of the vocals  together with the mournful and  very powerful music makes a masterpiece  out of this album,  never to be forgotten!!!  ( at least, not by me!!)  How much did this material took to be written?   Was some of it perhaps written at the times  you  still  was  in I. N. ?
Yes, some material is quite old. Legenda was actually born in 1993 with a bit different name and line-up. Two of the songs from Autumnal would have been an a Mcd of I.N. in 1995, but they were never recorded, I'm glad of that. I went on by myself in the beginning of 1996 and it was then  that Legenda's music got its shape.
